Overview



Adding relevant product recommendations on your customer account pages, specifically order history and status pages, is a smart way to increase average order value and post-purchase experience. With AfterShip Personalization, you can set up, customize, and personalize cross-sell and upsell offers in one place with advanced capabilities and premium features.

This guide will walk you through each step on how you can start displaying product recommendations on your store’s customer account pages.

Set up product recommendation offers customer account pages



Go to Smart checkout > Customer account pages in your AfterShip Personalization admin

If you've not installed the AfterShip Personalization application on Shopify, check this guide for step-by-step instructions.

Click Create offer.
Select the offer type from the available options. These options are indicative of the specific customer account pages where you want to showcase the product recommendations. You can choose to display product recommendations on

a. Order index page: This is where customers review their past orders.
b. Order status page: This is where customers check the current status of their orders.


Once the offer type is selected, click Create to open the product recommendations editor to set up the offer.

1. Settings



i) Offer status: Change the status from Disabled to Enabled.
ii) Recommendation rules: Under this setting, you can recommend the products based on certain rules, which include:

Pre-made rules: It consists of 10 pre-made rules or recommendation types which you can select from.
Custom rules: It allows you to add custom rules based on your requirements. Learn more about custom rules.

iii) Pinned product: It allows you to pin a product that you want to highlight and prioritise in product recommendations all the time.

iv) Exclusions: You can exclude products from recommendations. To exclude products from being recommended, you can select one of the three options:

Exclude products in the customers’ cart
Exclude specific products
Exclude by tag
Exclude by collection
Exclude by vendor

Please note that product exclusion and pinning are feasible depending on the recommendation type you've selected.

v) Product type: In this section, you can choose the type of product you would like to offer as product recommendations. The available options are One-time purchase only, Subscription only, Both ( One-time and subscription)

Offer promotion: In this section, you can enable and offer your customers discount offers on recommended products during checkout.
Click Save to let your changes come into effect.



Widget installation



Make sure you add our app as a block in Shopify's checkout editor. Refer to the Installation section and click Learn more to access the step-by-step guide to add the upsell offers to your store. You can also refer to our in-built installation guide from the top right corner.

i) Set how the offer section and section title will be displayed to your customers, including setting the border, radius, padding, and alignment.

Take the help of the in-built AI-model to come up with captivating titles.

ii) Decide the number of products you want displayed in the upsell offer by dragging the radio button across the bar.

Configure the display style of the recommended products for desktop and mobile.

iii) Configure whether the image source will be the original product or the product variant and simultaneously set its image radius, border, and aspect ratio.
iv) Decide what product information will be displayed and how it will be displayed under the Product info settings.

AfterShip Personalization has direct integration with AfterShip Reviews, Yotpo , Okendo, and Judge.me product reviews. Select the checkbox if you want to display product reviews via any one of these sources. You must install the aforementioned product review apps to display review ratings for your upsell products.

v) Set the primary button text to encourage customers to buy the recommended products.

3. Style



Under the style settings, change how the upsell offer section will look to the customers and make it brand-consistent.

The section will automatically sync with your Shopify store and match its theme. With extensive customization options, you can adjust the section's colors and fonts according to your reference.



Troubleshooting Tips



Issue: Widget not showing on the order status or index page


Verify the widget is enabled in the offer widget settings.
Ensure if the App block is correctly installed via the Shopify checkout editor.
Try reinstalling the widget following the in-built widget installation guide.

Issue: Products are showing incorrectly or not updating


Check the recommendation rules to ensure they are properly defined.
Review any exclusions or filters (tags, vendors, collections) that may be too restrictive.
Confirm product availability or visibility in Shopify admin.

Issue: Styling looks broken or inconsistent with my theme


Use the Style tab to adjust padding, border radius, fonts, and alignment.
Preview changes before publishing to ensure consistency.

Issue: Star ratings or reviews not showing up


Ensure that the selected review source is accurately installed and synced.
Confirm that the product has reviews in the selected review app.
Refresh the cache or re-save the widget settings.

FAQs



1. How many products can I show in the recommendation block?



You can customize the number of recommended products by dragging the product count slider under Product layout section in the Display settings. The layout will adjust accordingly on desktop and mobile.

2. Can I display star ratings from third-party review apps on upsell and cross-sell widgets?



Absolutely. AfterShip Personalization integrates directly with Yotpo, Judge.me, Okendo, and AfterShip Reviews. Just make sure the review app is installed and selected as the source in the Product Info section.

3. Will my recommendations automatically match my store’s branding?



The upsell section automatically syncs with your Shopify store theme, but you can fine-tune it using the Style tab for colors and fonts for the different elements of the widget.



You can enable Offer promotion to provide custom discounts on upsell products displayed on the customer account pages.
