Apply Bundle Recommendations to Your Shopify Store
Overview
AfterShip Personalization’s Bundle recommendations allow you to group products into AI-powered or custom bundles with discounts, giving shoppers the flexibility to pick and choose which items they want, along with the items they intend to buy. This encourages larger purchases and enhances the shopping experience.
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure
- Your Shopify store is connected to AfterShip Personalization.
- You are subscribed to the required plan— Trial, Essentials, or Enterprise to activate the Bundle recommendations feature.
How to set up bundle recommendations
Step 1: Access bundle recommendations feature
- Go to ** Smart product pages ** in your AfterShip Personalization admin.
- Click ** Create offer ** to start creating the bundle recommendation offers.
Step 2: Select the template
We offer two types of templates for displaying bundles:
1. Beside product image
This template places the bundle offer next to the main product image, using the same Add to cart button. When a customer selects bundle items and clicks Add to cart, the main product will automatically be added to the cart along with the selected bundle items.
2. Below product image
In this layout, the bundle offer is displayed below the main product image, with a dedicated Add to cart button. While the first item in the bundle is the main product, shoppers can select additional bundle items, but they can only choose those specific items.
Select the desired template and click Create to proceed to the bundle offer editor.
Step 3: Customize the bundle offer
On the bundle offer editor, you can define the recommendation strategy, content, and the aesthetics of the widget to align with your brand style. You will see three main tabs to customize your bundle offer.
1. Settings
- Offer status: Change the status from Disabled to Enabled.
- Recommendation rules: Under this setting, you can recommend the products based on certain rules which include:
- Pre-made rules: It consists of 13 pre-made rules or ** recommendation types ** which you can select from.
Below is a breakdown of how bundle recommendations can be used effectively with each AfterShip Personalization recommendation type to increase conversions and sales.

- Custom rules: It allows you to add custom rules based on your requirements. You can use these rules to tailor product suggestions based on specific conditions, enhancing the effectiveness of bundle recommendations. ** Learn more about custom rules. **

- Ensure the rule is placed appropriately in the priority list.
- Enable Exit if matched if you want to prevent further rules from applying once this condition is met (applies when you have configured one than 1 rule).
This way when a customer is browsing a gaming laptop, they will see recommendations for a gaming mouse, keyboard, and headset as a bundle suggestion.
- Pinned product: It allows you to pin a product that you want to see displayed in recommendations all the time, irrespective of the recommendation type selected.
- Exclusions: You can exclude products from recommendations based on a certain criteria. You can choose from the 5 available options.
- Exclude products in customers’ cart
- Exclude specific products
- Exclude by tag
- Exclude by collection
- Exclude by vendor

- Product type: In this section, you can choose to set up subscription-based product recommendations through bundle recommedations. It includes offering shoppers products as One-time purchase only, Subscription only, or Both ( One-time and subscription)
- Offer promotion: In this section, you can enable and offer your customers discounts on recommended products during checkout.
AfterShip Personalization allows merchants to apply discounts to bundle purchases using these threshold rules:
1. If the Discount Threshold is enabled
- Merchants can set a minimum number of items required for the discount to apply.
- Customers need to select at least the specified number of items to unlock the discount.
2. If the Discount Threshold is disabled
- Customers must select all bundle items to receive the discount.
- Click Save to let your changes come into effect
- Advanced: Under this section, you can configure widget callbacks.
Widget callbacks are functions or blocks of JavaScript code executed automatically when certain events occur within a widget. These events could include loading the widget, clicking on elements within the widget, submitting forms, or any other user interactions. 2. Display
The Display tab allows you to customize the appearance and behavior of the Bundle Recommendations widget.
- Widget: Adjust how the bundle recommendation appears on your product pages.
- Border: Choose between none, solid, or dashed to define the widget’s border style.
- Padding: Define the mobile and desktop padding. It sets the space between the widget and other elements on the page. Drag the radion button across the bar to set the value based on your preferences. The maximum limit is 20px across all sides.
- Widget title
- Title: Define the title of the bundle recommendations widget. The default text is set to "Buy together and save |DISCOUNT|!". You can customise it as you like.
- Character limit for widget title is 200 characters.
- Title padding: Define the title padding to set the space between the widget title and the bundle recommendations. The maximum limit is 20px across all sides.
- Alignment: Adjust the positioning of the title within the widget.
- Product layout
- Control the number of products displayed as bundle recommendations in the mobile and desktop view. The maximum number of products that can be displayed for desktop is 5 and mobile is 4.
- Product content
- Content radius: Modify how product details are displayed within the widget. Adjust the rounded corners of the product content area as needed.
- Image settings
- Image source: Select whether the bundle recommendations primary image will be taken from the main product or the variant. This applies only with the “Dynamic” variant selector display.
- Image aspect ratio: Set the image aspect ratio from the supported options. This help maintain consistency in image dimensions.
- Image border: Define a border around product images.
- Image radius: Adjust how rounded the image corners will appear. The maximum limit is 400px.
- Product information:
- Decide what product information will be displayed and how it will be displayed. Set the alignment for the product information.
- Variant selector
Configure the logic behind the variant preselection of the recommended products
- Smart variant match: Automatically displays the best product variant based on the selected products or the cart items
- First available variant: Displays the first in-stock product variant in the Shopify admin to the shopper
- Select the checkbox to allow customers to change the number of units they would like to buy of the product
3. Style
Under the style settings, change how your bundle recommendations widget will look to the customers and make it brand-consistent.
The widget section will automatically sync with your Shopify store and match its theme. You can adjust the colors and fonts of this widget as per your needs.
Step 4: Widget installation
To add bundle offer to your store, be sure to incorporate our app as a block within the Shopify checkout editor.
